Jack O’Neill

How it all began…

The story goes that in the year 1760 a young farm hand, named Jack O’Neill was herding sheep on a hill in county Tyrone. Jack came across a lucky find, a crock of silver. This lucky find allowed Jack to open the first Hostelry in Maghera which he named “The Inn of Maghera”. The hotel was passed down through generations and family members until the 1990’s when it was purchased by the Bradley family, its current owners and has always been a family run business.

Walsh’s Hotel (formerly known as “The Inn of Maghera”) has been a feature of the town since 1760 and is where local people find love, friendship, celebrate birthdays, anniversaries, weddings and births and find sympathy and comfort during difficult times such as funerals. It is the “cornerstone of the community” much like the ancient stone that has been in the same place outside the hotel since its opening also called the “cornerstone”.
Walsh’s is a place where travelers from near or far find comfort and a warm welcome, where they can feel at ease but with a certain sense of occasion like visiting your favorite auntie who lets you have a wee sip of brandy.

Steeped in history with lots of stories to tell, Walsh’s leaves guests wanting more and wanting to discover more about the hotel and the surrounding area.
